Feeling of a person retuirning to Hau Giang land

After nearly 5 years since the re-establishment of Hau Giang province, we came back to the location at the end of historic April to see Vi Thanh capital of the province really prospering with a series of construction projects in a beautiful and new dress …

Although it is sunny and muggy on days of April end, on the sites of key projects Hau Giang province’s leaders and people determined to finish to mark the 33rd anniversary of complete liberation of the South for the country unified (April 30th, 1975 – April 30th, 2008) engineers and workers are forgetting themselves in work in great impetus. Right on the occasion of April 30th and today May 1st, 2008 the great events were organized by Hau Giang province: inaugurating Xa No channel embankment stage 1(the tender number 1 and number 2) which is 9.4 km long passing the center of Vi Thanh capital; inaugurating Hau River’s West Road from the national highway number 61 to the provincial administrative buildings; completing the contract packet number 1 to build Tran Hung Dao street. The total value of projects is VND 925 billion.

When being put into operation, these works have given Vi Thanh Town a completely new outlook. The inhabitants have places for entertainment in the afternoon. Vi Thanh becomes splendid with streets full of flags and flowers, striking light from high tension electric lamps on roads every night. On this occasion provincial party committee guest house was opened; Lien Viet Commercial and Join-Stock Bank officially started its operation in Hau Giang with the capital of VND 3,000 billion. At the same time ground breaking ceremony was organized at some new projects such as Tran Hung Dao street of the tender No. 2, Xa No channel embankment stage 2 (the tender No. 3 and 4) of over 10 km, the roads leading to the communes’ centre, building Tan Phu Thanh resettlement area, the rest of contract packets in the project building roads joining Vi Thanh town and Can Tho City.

For over the past 4 years since the re-establishment of Hau Giang province, the party Committee and Provincial Government have focused on stabilizing state apparatuses while investing in building facilities and solving problems relating to people’s welfare. The province has continuously thriven. At the beginning of separation from Can Tho City, the authorities needed to rent or seek for temporary places to work and stay in. Now they have offices basically. Thanks to initiative and rapid building of series of offices and cadre houses staff of departments and branches are able to keep their minds on their work. In addition, the houses of gratitude for men of merit in wars and martyrs’ families in the whole province have been completed. Moreover, Vietnam fatherland front’s committees at different levels have mobilized people’s classes, political, economic, social organizations to build 8,000 charity houses for poor families. They have also carried out the economic measures, cared for the poor life, so the annual ratio of poor families is reduced 3%. Up to now the ratio of poor families is down to 15.66%.

In the economic sector, the province has planed Hau River Industrial Park, Phu Huu A and Tan Phu Thanh industrial complexes, district-level industrial and small industrial and craft groups. Vi Thanh town is building the infrastructure to give the investors. Two residential and resettlement areas for the foregoing industrial parks have been planned and the land has been given to construction investors to build the residential and resettlement areas. Certain road systems and projects are being carried out such as: construction of the connecting road from Vi Thanh town and Can Tho City, Hau River’s West Road, Tran Hung Dao prolonged street, provincial road 925, 931, 932, 927, Road from Bon Tong to Mot Ngan Town, Phung Hiep district road, a construction commencement of Hau Giang General Hospital with 500 sick-beds, Community College, Ethnic Minority Boarding School, … besides the state’s investment, the whole people’s yearly investment reaches over VND 2,000 billion, especially in 2007 the number was VND 2,950 billion, an increase of 18.3% against the 2004’s number. Only in 2007, Hau Giang province’s investment is up to VND 383,297 billion for transport works, 300 km asphalt roads leading to the center of communes, concrete roads and 285 reinforced concrete bridges gaining 183% of the plan with the total expenses of VND 75.4 billion. In the co-achievement, there is a contribution of Hau Giang’s people is VND 54 billion and tens of millions of working days for construction of roads (on their donated lands), bridges in rural transport systems. In 2007, Hau Giang province was honorably granted the banner of emulation titled “the leading unit in the Campaign to Develop Rural and Mountainous Areas’ Transportation 2007”.

With series of projects in performance, Hau Giang has an aim to make Vi Thanh town an Urbanism grade 3 by 2010, gradually complete the uninterrupted transportation system in the province and link other provinces in the region such as Kien Giang, Can Tho, Soc Trang …
