Determinedly carrying out the social and economic norms and Viet Nam National Rice Festival successfully

On November 02nd, the two preliminary summing-up meetings of social and economic situation in October this year in Hau Giang province were taken place with deploying the tasks in November 2009 of the provincial committee of the Party, the provincial People’s Council, People’s Committee, Vietnamese Fatherland Front Committee and services and industries.

Up to now, the farmers in Hau Giang Province have harvested 20,523 ha of winter-fall rice in which the average rice yield is 4.2 tons/ ha, covered 65% of rice planting areas using direct sowing methods. The pestiferous affects have not been serious and rice blast disease, rice grassy stunt disease, rice ragged stunt disease have been under control. Around 7,000 ha of sugar can has been cropped with the average yield of 96.6 ton/ ha and the price of VND 680 – 900/ kg at which farmers are able to make profits. The industrial production of this month is VND 333 billion making the total number from the beginning of the year so far VND 2,561 billion, accounting for 75.3% of the plan. The total export-import revenue of the month has reached USD 16.7 million, an increase of about 60% against the previous month’s, total figure of the beginning of the year up to now to is raised up USD 121.2 million. The total retail sale and service revenue of the first 10 months has reached VND 7,639 billion, an increase of 37% in the same period, accounting for 95.5% of the plan.

The budget revenue is VND 2,892 billion, 78.7% more than the target set by the Central Government, 12.6% more than the estimation of the provincial People’s Council. We have carried out well the health check-up and illness treatment for residents, active pandemic prevention, especially Dengue fever, acute diarrhea, flu A/H1N1. We have managed to implement the policy of “being grateful”, the policy of treating meritorious people, the policy of helping poor and lonely people, the policy of eliminating hunger and reducing poverty, vocational training, providing jobs for job seekers. We have organized well the dissemination of the Highway Code. There were 4 traffic accidents, one case more than the last month’s number.

Standing Vice President of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Thang has ordered the branches to pay more attention to the social and economic targets of the province, especially the targets of poverty reduction and rural clean water. The agricultural sector should pay special attention to and actively prevent epidemics in the livestock and crops, give guidance to make the winter-spring rice crop and prevention against flood and storms a success. The provincial departments, branches, and authorities should have plans to adjust the capital for projects in which the reimbursements are slow. Emphasis should be placed on human epidemics, food hygiene and safety, citizens’ complaints.

Especially, the preparation job for the first Vietnamese National Rice Festival in Hau Giang from November 28th to December 2nd 2009 is being speeded up. There have been a number of businesses registered to invest in Hau Giang with the total capital of over VND 40,000 billion. 55,000 people from 34 countries have visited the online newspaper of the Festival in both Vietnamese and English. The Organizing Committee have invited more than 1,000 home and abroad delegates to attend the Festival. The key projects of the province have been speeded up: the road joining Vi Thanh Town and Can Tho City, Tran Hung Dao Street, the Xa No Canal embankment (phase 2), Ba Thang Hai Street. Over 80% of the preparation job for the first Vietnamese National Rice Festival has been completed up to now.

Mr. Nguyen Phong Quang, a member of the party central committee, provincial party secretary has praised the efforts made by branches and authorities at all levels in organizing and directing the preparation for the Festival. Raising some important tasks which need to be done well in the coming days, he put emphases on the on time completion of key projects, especially projects serving the Festival, plans to ensure electricity and lightening, thorough preparation in receiving guests to Hau Giang including food, accommodation, and other needs, tasks of wide and deep propaganda.
