VIETNAM SOUTHERN FOOD CORPORATION
Vietnam Southern Food Corporation has been established since the early days of the unification of Vietnam. In the following years, however, the Corporation’s name has been changed many times so as to fit the socio-economic situation of the country. In 1995, implementing the policy of “Doi Moi” (renovation) and integration, Vietnam formed large state-owned corporations and powerful economic groups so that they would be capable of competitiveness in the region and the world. The Prime Minister signed the Decision No. 311/QĐ-TTg dated May 24, 1995 which established Vietnam Southern Food Corporation on the basis of a merger of Vietnam Central Food Corporation Zone II (Tổng Công ty Lương thực Trung ương II), Central Food Company Zone III (Công ty Lương thực Trung ương III) and the state-owned food trading units of the provinces south of Quang Nam-Da Nang province (now Da Nang City). During this period, Vietnam Southern Food Corporation has 35 member companies.
Implementing the Resolution of the 3rd Plenum of the Party Central Committee (9th tenure) on further re-structuring, renewing, developing, and raising the efficiency of State-owned enterprises; and with the Prime Minister’s approval, Vietnam Southern Food Corporation prepared the experimental scheme for the State-owned Corporation operating following the model of “Holding company – subsidiaries,” which was later approved by the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 136/2003/QĐ-TTg. After the process of re-structuring and conversion of the member companies’ activities following the road map of the Decision No.136/2003/QĐ-TTg, the Corporation prepared the scheme to organize the “Holding Company -- Vietnam Southern Food Corporation” and carried on the necessary legal procedures. On March 01, 2007, Vietnam Southern Food Corporation officially started operating in accordance with the Decision No. 333/2005/QĐ-TTg dated December 14, 2005 and Decision No. 125/2006/QĐ-TTg dated May 30, 2006 of the Prime Minister. |
